Rick Bartow: Things You Know But Cannot Explain runs April 22 through July 9, 2017 at the Heard Museum in Phoenix, AZ. Featuring more than 100 pieces, including a broad selection of sculptures, paintings, drawings, prints, mixed media work and the large pastels for which he is mostly known, the exhibition draws from public and private collections (including the artist's studio) that affirm this extraordinary artist's regional, national and international impact. The exhibition culminates in outstanding examples of Bartow's last works, which evidence a later freedom of scale and expression.
Conceived and organized by the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon in cooperation with Froelick Gallery. Accompanying the exhibition is a fully illustrated catalog, with essays by co-curators Jill Hartz, executive director, and Danielle Knapp, associate curator, and Lawrence Fong, former curator of American and regional art at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. Catalogs are available for purchase at Froelick Gallery or Heyday Books.
